The graffiti in the city of Leon Guanajuato has had a presence since 1994 or 1995. But unfortunately (or fortunately for some), people in this city remains more busy doing your thing, don´t care give publicity to their work. This type of behavior has been since its inception, so it just a few years ago, the Leon´s graffiti scene has been featured in the spotlight of the national scene.

It was very difficult to have photographs of the beginnings of graffiti in Leon, because it wasn´t even within our possibilities have analog cameras, much less digital ones.

This is a small sample of female presence that it had in those days, most women who have been dispersed and lost in their daily lives are no longer active in the graffiti (except for KEIM).

How did you start in graffiti world?: I started writing as a very young teenager. It was almost a subconsciensce act. Graffiti is all around us, I grew up seeing graffiti but nothing thinking it was abnormal, from freeway spots to gang writing.  I’ve always had an interest in art in general including fonts. In elementary I took a lot of free after school art classes taking drawing, print making, painting and I was even able to join a figure drawing workshop, which was not offered to everyone unless you fit the age group. So the creative spark was there. I actually started messing around with graffiti from really just walking around the LA River and picking up can and just starting to tag. Once I started to get some sort of a grasp of what graffiti is I just took to it naturally. I still make art some is graffiti related others are not.

How do you define your style?: I wouldn’t really know how to describe my style because I´m always trying new things. I like to play with letters a lot. I often get bored doing the same letters or color schemes and composition. I´m sure my style will always look like mine but I definitely try to change it up and push myself to do better than my last piece, almost as if I´m in a competition with myself.

Have you been influenced in some people?: I have always  gravitated to different art forms and wanted to learn about them since I was young; from paintings to the engravings. I think there is no greater influence then the world and its surroundings. Some of the artist that I remember admiring from youth are Frida Kahlo, Rivera, Orozco, Siqueiros, Posada, Dalí, Matisse, Jackson Pollock. Over time I began to know about more artist and saw their work with admiration. I don't like to look at other artist and they aspire to be like them, or paint like them, but only to admire the direction in which decided to take their art and how they were able to develop and mature and evolve in their work. Whether it's either artist or graffiti artists.

Speaking of legal and illegal, of streets and galleries, walls and canvas; what do you think about between those divisions that are made within graffiti?: I believe that now a days I have a feeling that there is a overwhelming view that illegal graffiti is irrelevant. I disagree with that. Even though it might not matter to some people the illegal aspect is what gives graffiti it’s foundation and there will always be a place for that. I think if you're going to call yourself a graffiti writer, then you should be able to cover that aspect in some point. Of course, we all grow older and full of life responsibilities and graffiti offers this growth. You can move from the illegal street work to full-scale legal works and even make their way into galleries. But as I mentioned before if you are going to call yourself a graffiti writer you have to put in that work on the street.

What is your opinion about the graffiti is being done around the world and the participation of women in the scene: If it’s women or men creating the work of art in the world does not make any difference. The fact that everyone's participation is always good. It´s refreshing to see new concepts, color schemes and ideas that every artist around the world are pushing forward.

Without desire graffiti gender divide, what is your opinion of female graffiti?: I think that of course we must embrace all who we are, but at the same time. We must not allow boundaries between all of us.

Do you think there is any difference in style between a graffiti made by a woman, which is made by a man?: Not necessarily. I think that you for the majority of cases the women paint the direction that see themselves.

Is it hard for a woman to get a place and respect in an activity, such as graffiti, predominated by men: No. if it´s in your character to demand  respect and work hard and demonstrating you are  capable to obtain  your goal; then it give people little option for doubt and you will always move forward.

Do you care about social issues? For example, what is the position that you have concerning illegal immigrants?: Yes, of course I care about the world and social issues. But I don't care to make public opinions on these issues. After all, changes did not come to talking about it, comes from acting on it.

What is LA for you?: It´s a cultural melting pot in full effect. With all the good and bad that has to offer, it is home.

Do you know Mexican graffiti?: Yes, i know a few Mexican graffiti writers . I think they are great. In think in general the graffiti that comes out of Mexico is amazing and all that projected into it.
